Movies & Romance

Every woman loves a good movie about a wedding. And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, you may just be able to convince your fiance to sit down and watch a good old fashioned chick-flick with you. Take our cues for the best wedding feature films hollywood has to offer...

On DVD...
1. Father of the Bride (1950) Starring Spencer Tracy, Elizabeth Taylor & Joan Bennett
You may be more aware of the 1991 version starring Steve Martin, but this 1950 classic centers around the same storyline with an overprotective father dreading the day he must give his daughter away. Starting when she announces her engagement through to the wedding itself, we learn of all the surprises and disasters along the way.

2. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) Starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett
A young Greek woman falls in love with a non-Greek and struggles to get her family to accept him while she comes to terms with her heritage and cultural identity. You'll fall in love with this sincere heroine and giggle your way through the entire nuptials.

3. Four Weddings and A Funeral (1994) Starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell
Four British friends attend four weddings and one funeral. Led by Charles who thinks he's found "The One" in Carrie, an American whom he meets at one of the weddings, the group wonders if they will ever find true love and marry.

4. Father of the Bride (1991) Starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short
In this remake of the Spencer Tracy classic, George and Nina Banks are the parents of young soon-to-be-wed Annie. George is a nervous father unready to face the fact that his little girl is now a woman. The preparations for the extravagant wedding and wedding planner provide additional comic moments.

5. Muriel's Wedding (1995) Starring Toni Collette
Muriel finds life in Porpoise Spit, Australia dull and spends her days alone in her room listening to Abba music and dreaming of her wedding day. Slight problem, Muriel has never had a date. Then she steals some money to go on a tropical vacation, meets a wacky friend, changes her name to Mariel, and turns her world upside down.

In Theaters...
1. 27 Dresses (2008) Starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden
After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with. Remember 27 weddings means 27 bridesmaids dresses.

Coming Soon...
1. Sex and the City The Movie (2008) Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis
The big question is "Will Carrie finally marry Big?" Early press shots of these maybe nuptials hit the media this fall. Will a wedding change the bond our favorite four ladies have? Find out May 30th when this film hits theaters.

2. Mamma Mia (2008) Starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried
The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA. The film takes its cue from the Broadway hit musical with the same name.

Mellow Yellow

Get ready for the color forecast for 2008/2009. Banquetevent.com predicts you'll be seeing a lot more yellow in upcoming wedding design. With its many shades, yellow can reflect not just one, but many seasonal tones. Look for deep golds and amber in the Fall, bananas and lemons in the Spring, and buttercup and tinted creams in the Winter. Yellow can be paired with almost any other color as well for a two-toned design. Consider pairing yellow with chocolate or black, orange, red, lime green, or metallic silver or platinum. Yellow brightens any decor and is perfect for your shining moment.
