It's the Shape of Things

Earrings make any woman look more charming and attractive. There are appropriate types for every occasion and any woman.

Due to the fact they are close to the face, earrings must compliment one’s face shape. There are also several basic styles that can be worn from day to evening and are appropriate for a variety of clothing options and occasions. So let's look at some ideas for choosing which earrings for you.
You should identify your face shape first to decide what style of earrings will compliment your face best. Consider what will enhance your good features. Take into consideration the cut and color of your hair, your skin tone, your body size and clothes you’re wearing.

Salma Hayek - Round face shape

If your face is round you better choose lean, long and angular curved lines. It will elongate and add a little angle to your face. You can wear drop earrings in dangles, ovals and oblongs. Square and rectangular earrings are also good options, as are angular earrings. But make sure that you avoid small studs and hoops and chunky large earrings as well.

Oval Face Shape - Wear just about anything (check that hairstyle first)
This is a classic shape that will work with almost any style of earring. You can always do some experiment with different styles and decide what looks good on your face. You can wear earrings with soft shapes like studs, ovals and teardrops. Spiraled heavy drop earrings will suite you. Pearl, diamond, or gemstone studs can compliment this face shape if worn with a shorter hair style. However, avoid wearing incredibly long and thin shapes that will just pull you down.

Jennifer Aniston - Heart shaped face
Look for earrings that are wider at the bottom – tear drops, chandeliers, triangle shapes that begin with a point. Even circular and oval earrings will work with your face shape, so long as they don’t taper as they descend. Pyramid style earring will also look pretty. Steer clear of earrings that are heart shaped very short earrings.

Paris Hilton - Square Face Shape
Earrings with a round and angular edge will work best because it will help in softening a square face. As long as you avoid harsh angles and square shapes, you can wear just about anything in the earring category. Hoops and curved edges will add the necessary roundness, and drop earrings, long tear drops, or multi-tiered dangling earrings will give a square shape some length.

Sarah Jessica Parker - Long or Thin Face Shape
You should consider wearing simple studs and chandelier style earrings. Three dimensional earrings will add fullness to your face. To widen this face shape wear circular, triangular (with the point up) and square earrings. However, remember to avoid flat or dangling earrings.

Nicole Kidman - Diamond face shape
Wear short and wide earrings. A straight line and curves combination will work well for you. Besides, try studs and small drop earrings. Be sure to avoid long and thin earring style.

Victoria Beckham - Triangular Face Shape
If you have a triangular face you need earrings that will soften the sharp angles. Large oval or small circular earrings will work well for you. Prefer earrings with curves at the bottom and avoid ones that come to a point.

Now you have some tips to help you. Go have some fun with a few of the ideas - look in the mirror and really notice the difference in how it evens out your facial shape. Beautiful you!

The Shape of Things . . .

Earrings - Long, jeweled, bold yet sometimes delicate and petite, they can be larger than life in the trends this season and those coming. There are some incredible stying options, so keep in mind one key essential so you wear them to flatter your features - the shape of your head/face can make or break the look. There are appropriate types for every occasion and everyone.

Pull your hair off of your face, now stand in front of a well lighted mirror and try on a few different types of earrings. Notice one key element right away - how close they are to your face. Thus the reason, they need to compliment your face shape. Add to that the wide range of styles lengths and textures. Some are appropriate for evening, some for day wear or work. Here are a few keep tips on what to consider. Also keep in mind when choosing earrings the cut and color of your hair, your skin tone, your body size and clothes you’re wearing.

Round Face Shape: our example is Salma Hayek.

Rhianna's and Megan Fox's perfect oval face shape will work with almost any style of earring. You can have a field day, based on that perfect oval, so be sure to keep in mind your haircut, clothing color, etc. You can wear earrings with soft shapes like studs, ovals and teardrops. Spiraled dangly pair will look cute on you. Pearl, diamond, or gemstone studs can compliment this face shape if worn with a shorter hair style. However, avoid wearing incredibly long and thin shapes that will just pull you down.

Heart shaped face celeb - Jennifer Aniston: look for earrings that are wider at the bottom – tear drops, chandeliers, triangle shapes that begin with a point. Even circular and oval earrings will work with your face shape, so long as they don’t taper as they descend. Pyramid style earring will also look pretty. Steer clear of earrings that are heart shaped very short earrings.

The Long or Thin face shape, such as our example in Sarah Jessica Parker: you are advised to wear simple studs and chandelier style earrings. Three dimensional earrings will add fullness to your face. To widen this face shape wear circular, triangular (with the point up) and square earrings. However, remember to avoid flat or dangling earrings.

Nicole Kidman's diamond face shape: wear short and wide earrings. A straight line and curves combination will work well for you. Besides, try studs and small drop earrings. Be sure to avoid long and thin earring style.

Examples not pictures are the Triandular face - such as Victoria Beckham: if you have a triangular face you need earrings that will soften the sharp angles. Large oval or small circular earrings will work well for you. Prefer earrings with curves at the bottom and avoid ones that come to a point.

Something To Really Smile About . . .

We rarely write about our personal lives on this blog, but there comes a time when you just need to toot your own horn once in a while. At B&E, we are much more than co-workers, we are a family. Beyond what we do in the office, we care about each other's lives, and support each other through the highs and lows of everyday life. Today I am happy to report one of those highs.

Alexis Pellegrini, who has worked for B&E for seven years, and her husband Peter, recently turned their 8 year dream into a reality. Peter, an orthodontist, opened his first solo practice in Everett, WA on August 3rd. We've watched the two of them stay focused as Peter trekked through four years of dental school at the University of Washington, and three more years for his orthodontic residency at Oregon Health Science University.

Now they begin a new chapter as business owners of a beautiful practice in Everett. Alexis, of course, remains a part of our B&E team, and it has been great to see how the skills she has learned working with us have been able to help develop Dr. Pellegrini's web and marketing materials.

We wish them many years of success!

drugstore hot buys

1. Olay In-Shower Body Lotion:
We've heard it said a million times..."moisturize, moisturize, moisturize..." So when we tried this product by Olay, we we hopeful it would do what it promised. Olay Ultra Moisture In-shower Body Lotion works with the warmth and humidity of your shower to reveal soft, smooth skin after just one use. Just put it on your legs in the shower and you literally won't have to put on lotion again for the rest of the day. We say Horray for Olay!

2. Maybelline Volum' Express Turbo Boost Mascara: Thick, femine lashes don't come naturally for everyone, so if you can use a little boost to your dull lashes, we highly recommend Maybellin's Volum' Express Turbo Boost Bascara in Very Black. The masquera stays soft and light on your lashes and doesn't clump. It goes on easily and thickens with one swoop. Great buy!

3. Sleek.look by Matrix Smoothing System Shampoo & Conditioner: We are always on the hunt for the best shampoo that will leave our hair silky-smooth without being to greasy. Our latest love is by Matrix. Try Sleek.look for a truly slick and salon-ready style that will leave your hair shiny and healthy looking.

4. Colgate Wisp Portable Mini-Brush: Fresh breath is always a turn-on, but if you are also a girl that likes extra onions on your burger, you need a little extra help to stay minty. We love these Portable mini toothbrushes by Colgate that easily slip into our purse and let us freshen our mouths throughout the day. You don't even need water. These brushes work great for that quick brush in your car on your way to your afternoon meeting.

5. Neutrogena Moisture Oil Free Formula, Sensitive Skin: We've heard it said a million times...the best way to healthy skin is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. But with so many different types of moisturizers on the market all ranging in price, how do you know what the best product is for the money? There is a reason why some of the manufacturers remain at the top. Try Neutrogena's Moisture Oil Free Formula for Senstive Skin. The formula is smooth and silky and won't feel greasy or heavy on your skin. It's great under makeup or to put on before bed. Just remember to also wear a SPF if you are going to be outside.

6. Salon Grafix Professional Shaping Hair Spray Styling Mist, Unscented Super Hold: If there is one beauty product you can save money on, it's HAIRSPRAY! Salon Grafix Professional Shaping Hair Spray keeps your hair in place all day long and its a great bargain.

7. Biosilk Silk Therapy, Silk: If you have naturally try or frizzy hair, you'll love Biosilk Silk Therapy. Just comb it through your wet hair after you wash it and before your blow dry it and notice the added shine it gives your dull hair.

8. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm, Regular, SPF 15: Chapstick is a godsend in the summer and our favorite brand of all is good-old-BLISTEX. The version that does the trick for our chapped lips is the Medicated version that also includes an SPF of 15 which is always an added plus!

9. Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil: This tiny pencil makes precision a breeze when its time to shape and fill-in those patchy eyebrows. Comes in several colors so find the match that is right for you.

Bold Look, Bangs, Big Hair!

We say "Bring it On" . . . and while you're at it do it in a big bold way and why not add the biggest look of all bangs. One of the greatest options we have as women is how individual our style can be in just about every way from the shoes we wear to the hair we flair. What makes you - you? It's all good. We had to throw in a true Icon of hair fashion to start our inspiration board. In the top left corner is a classic new do from the Master, Vidal Sasson - the absolute King of Cuts. It doesn't matter the color or the length, it matters what you feel and look good in. Thank you to Killerstrands blog for some of the above pixs. You also might want to check out a site called Hair Comes The Bride. We will feature them in a later article.

A Little History Lesson

For those of you that had a problem paying attention to history lessons in high school, we have a whole new history subject you are sure to enjoy: the history of jewelry. It would be invidious to attempt to pick out “the best” or “the greatest” designer of the 20th Century. Those like Paul Flato and Van Cleef & Arpels (shown below) were all great within the context of their time.

In the 1930’s, Suzanne Belperron and René Boivin ignored the Art Deco aesthetic and created designs reflecting modernism almost entirely. Paul Flato, Trabert and Hoeffer were busy producing fantasy jewels in Hollywood. The style that had been prevalent prior to the first World War – the “Garland Style” – curvilinear, naturalistic and representational – gave way to more abstract designs.

In the early 1940's big and bold took over jewelry trends, but toward the end of the decade Christian Dior’s “New look” of 1947 saw a return to femininity. Jewels, to complement the new fashions became softer. Braids, ropes and tassels typified the look of the 1950’s. Platinum was re-introduced and gained instant popularity. Verdura and Schlumberger in New York produced wonderful naturalistic jewels but perhaps no jeweler embodied the spirit of the 1950’s more than Pierre Sterlé working in Paris, using textured gold to great effect.

By the 1960's the idea of a single trend seemed to fade and a variety of styles, themes and textures began to emerge. Italian jewelers began to gain recognition and became a dominating force against French designers. A little jeweler you may have heard of, Tiffany & Co, in New York, also began to make a name for itself by promoting new up and coming designers.

Check out some samples of jewelry from decades ago below. Is it not remarkable how many of their shapes and styles are still relevant today?

We Think You'll Love...

We think you'll love these jewels and bedazzles from the bridal collection by Tarina Tarantino.
Tarina Tarantino was founded in 1995 by Tarina Tarantino and Alfonso Campos. The 1990's were the height of minimalism in the fashion world. Accessories were almost non existent in the pages of fashion magazines and stores. Their colorful and inventive designs were a breath of fresh air for customers that were tired of blending into the fashion landscape. Now celebrities like Heidi Klum, Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez and Paris Hilton have worn deisgns by Tarina Tarantino.

We are especially in love with their ultra feminine bridal collection. Check out some of our favs below.

The Big Question: What Will She Wear?

Michelle Obama and her family have created quite a ring of excitement in anticipation of what designer and what gown she will wear to the Presidential Inaugural balls. She will have a few to go to. She has a definite style that will cause a sensation no matter what she chooses. Several designers have submitted ideas and here are a few. What style do you think she is?

Top Row from left to right:
1.Michael Kors elegance in blue - a gown showing style eternally
2. Diane Von Furstenberg shows a possible suite for the swearing in ceremony very retro '60s feel in so many ways.
