These Crepes Will Creep Up On You

Two new crepe restaurants have opened in Seattle you need to give a try.

The first crepe company is called Unicorn Crepes, named after the shape of the crepe cone. This Japanese craze comes by cooking the crepes on a French griddle and then filling the center with flavors and fillings you would never expect. Sure, everyone loves a sweet crepe filled with whipped cream, fruit or syrup, but how about a chili cheese dog crepe, or perhaps a pizza crepe? Sound interesting? We think so. Among the flavors mentioned you can also order teriyaki, tuna salad, or dessert crepes filled with cornflakes. Be daring, you never know what you might discover in your own neighborhood.

Visit Unicorn Crepes 421 Sixth Ave South Seattle, WA 206-652-0637

The second crepe restaurant you need to visit is called La Cote Creperie. Paris native, Laurent Gabrel has brought a piece of his French culture straight to Seattle. We suggest the buckwheat crepe filled with Yukon potatoes and proscuitto. Other fillings to indulge in include shrimp, homemade sauces, french cheeses and unique spreads like chestnut or lemon.

Visit La Cote Creperie and you'll instantly be transported (at least in your mind) from the Seattle streets straight to Paris.

Visit La Cote Creperie today at 2811 East Madison Street, Seattle 206-323-9800

Recipe For Love

At banquetevent.com we are all about personalization. We believe whole-heartedly, that the best weddings don't have to be the ones that spend thousands of dollars making sure each detail is perfect and extraordinary. Extraordinary things happen when you put your own touch on traditional wedding pieces. One way to do this best is through your wedding favors. Our favorite wedding favor of all time is to bake a delectable treat for your guests, include the recipe and neatly package a little taste in a charming box. This can be from your family recipe vault or it can be a new recipe, but either way, the personalization and thought that goes into it makes it special. You can even ask your family or bridesmaids to get involved and help you bake. It will be a wonderful bonding experience and you can eat the leftovers. (Always a plus!)

Here's how to make this favor extra special. First, find the right recipe. Remember, you probably don't want to bake anything that can melt or spoil, so choosing something that won't loose its taste or texture is ultra important. Some great treats to consider would be Italian biscottis, hard candies, crispy cookies like gingersnaps or meringue.

If you need some inspiration for a recipe, visit foodnetwork.com for hundreds of great free recipes. One of our favorites we found were these Meringue Smooches.

Next find the right packages. There are thousands of options available to you and at an affordable price. You can find beautiful boxes in all colors and shapes. Check out these options we found at Beau Coup.

Lastly, to add the extra touch of personalization, have a custom rubber stamp made. They range from $12-$20 and can used over and over again. We found these at etsy.com from Sweet Papery. Also available through Sweet Papery are custom save the date, address, and other charming custom stamps.

A Whole New Flavor

You may have seen this new soda company popping up in places you've visited as of late. We had the pleasure of tasting samples offered at a local Nordstrom, and were pleasantly surprised at just how delicious and refreshing these flavored sodas were. We think they would make an excellent addition to your spring event. The sodas come from DRY Soda Co. a Seattle based bottling company. According to DRY Soda Co., they "offer today’s consumer a modern alternative in refreshment — a line of all-natural, lightly sweet sodas, flavored with fruit or herb extracts, and sweetened with a small amount of pure cane sugar."

And you won't believe the flavors they come in: kumquat, lavender, lemongrass and rhubarb. Our favorite is the lavendar, but they are all delicious with just the right amount of flavor and sweetness. These sodas make the perfect addition to a spring bridal luncheon.

Visit their tasting room and see for yourself. The Company Store and Tasting Room is located in DRY Soda’s headquarters at 410 1st Ave South in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square neighborhood. Much like a winery tasting room, the DRY Tasting Room offers samples of DRY’s four cuisine-inspired flavors and the opportunity for customers to purchase in single 12-ounce bottles, four-pack carriers, 12-pack mixed and single flavor shipping boxes, as well as DRY Goods such as t-shirts, onesies and gift baskets.

FUNK Shui

We're taking you back....way back. Start planning your wedding retro-style. Whether your inspiration comes from the 60's, 70's or 80's we've got the bright and ultra bright colors and combos for your super sheik and super funky wedding day decor.

The best part about a funky wedding theme is the energy it brings to your event. Who can not have a great time with bright yellows, pinks and oranges adorning your space? There is just something in the patterns and color combinations that puts you in the party mood right from the start.

But obviously, most grooms are not going to want to have a completely bright pink, flowered and striped wedding. So be discerning in your choices. Choose one piece as your central eye-catching detail item, and then choose solids to pair it with.

We've found some great examples of those "wow" pieces you can choose to base your theme around.

Black & White Takes the Cake

Simplicity is never understated. This may sound like a contradiction, but when it comes to color palettes for your wedding day decor and design, simplicity is often the most dramatic. Lately, we've noticed a common trend of brides choosing a very simplistic color palette but utilizing very dramatic shapes, textures and angles to create a dramatic effect. Today we'd like to show you some examples of truly amazing cakes that certainly draw attention, but only feature black, white and silver in the color palette.

Our first samples come from celebrity cake designer Ron Ben-Israel as featured in InStyle Weddings. Note in the cake to the left the alternation of round versus square designs with ornate design features also alternating in black and silver against a white backdrop. The cake to the left uses a narrow height to draw attention to the dramatic monogram detail at the top.

Patterned elements brought into cake designs using a black and white palette creates a striking effect. The cake to the left by Martine's Pastries, was inspired by the print on an Indian shawl.

There is nothing plain about this all-white cake by Carlos Bakery. Baker, Buddy Valastro uses texture and pattern to create a fully glamorous cake.

Here is another example of an all-white cake that uses patterns to create a dapper and sophisticated cake design. This cake by Cheryl Kleinman Cakes gained inspiration from a crisp tuxedo shirt.

Our last example comes from cake designer, Michelle Bommarito of Michelle Bommarito Cakes. Michelle gained inspiration from a lavish ball gown and translated the ornate black scroll pattern onto the backdrop of a fondant white cake.

Northwest Wines

The Northwest, specifically Washington State and Oregon, is home to some of the best wines in the world. With such excellence in your very own backyard why not use some of the area's finest to wow your guests' tastebuds at your wedding reception. Here is a guide to some of our favorites...

The Prestigious Award Goes To...Chateau Ste MIchelle, WA
The Chateau Ste Michelle Winery is one of the oldest and most award winning wineries in Washington State. With its large cellar of reds and whites alike, Chateau Ste Michelle's wines represent the varietal character of the Columbia Valley.

The Best Wine For Your Buck Award Goes To...Hogue Cellars, WA
Hogue Cellars™ is located in Eastern Washington's Columbia Valley, the premiere grape growing region of the state. The climate and soils of the Columbia Valley produce grapes with intense fruit flavors and high natural acidity. The wines have a liveliness and ripe, zesty fruit flavors that make them ideal complements to a wide range of food. What makes their bottles unique are the screw tops rather than corks.

The Most Surprising It Came From Washington and Not Italy Award Goes To...Tsillan Cellars, WA
Tsillan Cellars (pronounced "Chelan") brings a taste of Tuscany to the Northwest. Their meticulous attention to detail has allowed Tsillan Cellars to establish itself as the premiere, award-winning winery in the valley; with varietals such as the Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah winning gold medals, and the Estate Pinot Grigio, and Estate Gewurztraminer winning double gold and platinum medals in both regional and national wine competitions.

Best Female Winemaker Award Goes To...Penner-Ash Wine Cellars, OR
Oregon’s northern latitude brings long hours of summer sunshine and cool nights to the Penner-Ash vineyard which helps fully ripen the grapes and retain natural acidity. Their unique growing season allows for the development of complex fruit flavors, aromatics and nuances associated with world-class wines.

More Spice and Less Sugar Award Goes To...Panther Creek Cellars
For the couple who likes to spice it up, we recommend Panther Creek Cellars. Known for their Pinot Noirs, Panther Creek's wines almost have a pepper taste in the background which is sure to spice up any dining experience. This wine is not for the faint, with its bold tannins and fragrant aroma, but pairs surprising well with ethnic foods also rich in flavor.
